About Us!
Finke's is a small grocery store, carrying daily supplies like bread, dairy products, snacks, canned goods, cleaning supplies and such, the true focus is the large meat counter. Finke's of Northern Kentucky has a variety of cut meats, including from meatballs and Goetta to it’s signature pork sausage. It's the best goetta in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati that keeps them coming back, Finke said. Originally a dish from the northern part of Germany, the mixture of pork, beef, pinhead oatmeal and seasoning is a local favorite. Finke has made minor modifications, but he still uses basically the same recipe his great-grandfather used in the 1800s. On average, Finke said the store sells 17 tons of goetta a year.
Finke's great-grandparents started with a meat store on Main Street in Covington, KY more than 100 years ago. Eventually, Finke's grandparents took over the store. Cutting meat came easy to Bill Finke. Finke grew up working in that store, and he learned his way around a butcher's block by watching his elders. In 1962, Finke and his brother opened Finke's, a meat market in Fort Wright KY at the corner of Sleepy Hollow and Amsterdam roads. He didn't know when he opened it that Finke's would become a landmark in Northern Kentucky en route to Park Hills or Fort Wright.
Finke's hums with daily activity, starting in the morning, when locals drop by for a cup of coffee, or to grab some bacon or goetta for breakfast. At lunchtime, the meat counter grows busy as people on their lunch hour stop by for a sandwich. And the evening rush comes as people stop in on their way home from work to pick up some sausage or ground beef for dinner.
Another area Finke's is developing is catering. The store offers meat and cheese trays, vegetable trays and snack trays. They also do pig roasts and hot buffets.
